Portsmouth boss John Mousinho says he is "not done yet" in the transfer market as he continues to build his squad for the Championship.

The Blues will kick off their season on Saturday when they face Leeds at Elland Road but Mousinho feels his squad might not be complete until closer to the transfer deadline.

“Yes the seasons starts in days but the window doesn’t close until the end of August,” Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent.

“There’s still plenty of time for us to bring players in, we do have to be focused on the short term though and make sure we can secure results.

“It’s a really fine balance though, there’s still plenty in the pipeline so we’re not done yet, there’s quite a few options that we’re trying to pursue.”

On Monday, BBC Radio Solent held their annual Portsmouth FC fans' forum which allowed supporters to put questions to a panel that included Mousinho, captain Marlon Pack, chief executive Andrew Cullen and women's head coach Jay Sadler.

The head coach highlighted a particular market that might become available to him as the window progresses.

As the Premier League and Championship seasons get under way across the next two weeks, fringe and academy players will learn more about their futures and whether they might need to look elsewhere for game time.

Last season, the Blues hit the jackpot with a number of loanees from England's top two tiers, the standout being Abu Kamara from Norwich City, who scored double figures in goals and assists across 52 appearances in all competitions.

Alex Robertson from Manchester City and Tino Anjorin from Chelsea also impressed despite injury impacting their respective seasons on loan at Fratton Park.

“The big thing for us this summer is finding the balance between waiting long enough for the player we want and taking what is already available," said Mousinho.

"When we have said no to a player so far it has come down to in our opinion, that player is not making us any stronger, we don’t want to bring the wrong players in.

"We’re very focused though and feel we are prepared to start the season and also across the full 46 games which are of equal importance.”
