Tavernier doesn't hold back after Brann defeat

Captain James Tavernier was left "raging" after Rangers' "disgraceful" 3-0 defeat by Brann sent them bottom of the Europa League table.

The confidence-stricken Scottish Premiership side, under the stewardship of Danny Rohl for the first time, registered just one shot on target in Bergen.

Rangers have now lost their three games in the competition after dropping down from Champions League qualifying, while they sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership with one solitary win.

"It's just a disgraceful performance, it's as simple as that," said Tavernier, who joined the club in 2015.

"All the years I've been here, the consistency of poor performance that we're putting in, I've not experienced it before.

"Some of us show our aggression after the games, after we get beaten - you expect all the lads to take that in, but we have to look at ourselves much harder.

"We were just second best to first ball, second balls, not enough fight, and I shouldn't be saying that for Rangers players - that should be the given.

"It's just far too easy at this minute playing against us. That's the hurtful thing about this all."

Rohl was named on Monday as the man to replace Russell Martin, who was removed from his post on 5 October after a dreadful start domestically and on the continent.

Given the short turnaround, the 36-year-old German had a short time to work with his new group of players, who have entered a crucial run of games including a Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Celtic on 2 November.

"The manager's come in, it's a couple of days on the training pitch, you can only give certain instructions but us as ourselves have to put that on the pitch," said Tavernier.

"He [Rohl] can give us the best opportunity, but it comes from within as a player to fight, to give it your all, that's within. I don't think that's something that's taught.

"I think you've either got it or you haven't, we're just clearly not showing that at this moment in time. I'm raging."
