Sheffield Wednesday have been placed under a registration embargo by the English Football League over the non-payment of wages.

Both players and staff are yet to receive their salaries for May and the club and owner Dejphon Chansiri were charged with breaching multiple EFL regulations relating to payment obligations earlier this week.

This is the third time the Championship club have been given an embargo of this kind since the start of the 2023-24 season.

Clive Betts, Labour MP for Sheffield South East, called on Chansiri to sell the club earlier this week and said the Thai businessman was "holding it hostage".

John Flanagan, a member of a US-based consortium looking to buy the club, told BBC Radio Sheffield on Tuesday that they had had two offers for the Hillsborough side rejected.

Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship last season.
