Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has said he is "not influenced" by ongoing speculation linking him with Premier League strugglers Southampton.

It is understood Saints were interested in the 35-year-old, who previously spent time as Ralph Hasenhuttl's assistant at St Mary's, when they appointed Ivan Juric in December.

With the Croat having won just one of his 10 league games in charge and relegation back to the Championship highly likely, Rohl is once again being talked about taking over on the south coast.

"I must say all the rumours and topics around don't influence me," he told BBC Radio Sheffield., external

"My main part is here and the next game with my group. We didn't win in the last games and our responsibility is to get us back on track.

"There's no problem for me because I'm not listening to left and right, my focus is here.

"I know my responsibility for my group and the club, that's what is important at the moment, not some headlines."

Rohl took over at Hillsborough in October 2023 and led them to safety last season with a superb turnaround in fortunes after a dismal start under Xisco Munoz

This season they have spent much of the campaign in the top half of the division but a run of three successive defeats has seen them drop down to 13th place, seven points off the play-offs.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri raised question marks over Rohl's position in January when he told a fans' forum the two had not discussed transfer targets, something the head coach said he was "a little surprised" by.

The German signed a long-term contract in May, understood to be through until the end of the 2026-27 season, and says he is putting his energies into trying to secure a top six spot in the Championship for the first time since 2017.

"Everyone knows my contract situation. There is no reason now why we should talk about anything other than the next game and the last 11 games to get as many points as we can," he added.

"I said to my players you are always playing for something. I know some people will say you can be in no man's land but no, we still play for the next three points."
