Forward Jordan Roberts believes Stevenage might now have a target on their backs after hitting the top of the League One table.

Alex Revell's side, who have never played at Championship level or finished higher than sixth in the third tier, are a point clear following their 2-0 win over Luton.

Two seasons ago the teams were two divisions apart, with Luton then a Premier League side, but goals by Chem Campbell and Roberts gave Boro victory.

"As a football player, you want to be winning games, being top of the league," Roberts told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I think now we might start to have a bit of a target on our backs but as a player that's what you want, you want to be playing as high as possible, competing at the highest level."

A crowd of 7,228 were at the Lamex Stadium, the second highest in Stevenage's history for a league game., external

They have won eight of their 10 league games this season - and taken 13 points out of a possible 15 from the past five.

And Roberts was delighted to contribute his second goal in three games, even though he has not started any of them.

"We've had a good month, good start to the season so far, the lads are grafting week in, week out, and it's showing when we go out there on matchdays," he said.

"Whoever signs here, whoever goes out there on a Saturday, the number one rule is you have to give your all.

"When you've got momentum, it makes it a bit easier to go out there and perform, but the lads are scoring goals collectively, we're defending well, especially when we go into a lead.

"The manager picks the team and whether you're starting or on the bench, you have to do a job.

"I'll carry on doing that whether I come off the bench or start games. For me it's just about keeping a bit of consistency, but more important is the team."

Roberts has played 140 league games for Boro since joining them three years ago, whereas Campbell was only in his 10th after arriving from Wolves.

His 65th-minute strike to break the deadlock was a superb curling effort in blustery conditions.

"It fell perfectly for me on the edge (of the box) but I still had a lot to do. I just tried to hit it with good contact and it went in," Campbell said.

"We know we've still got a long way to go, a lot of games, we've just go to to keep on pushing."

Stevenage take on Bromley in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening and will be looking for the second group victory following a 5-1 win at AFC Wimbledon.
