Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has had the number one shirt taken away before the new campaign, with Dean Henderson given the jersey.

Johnstone spoke in an interview with the BBC last season about the "unusual" situation at Palace with two senior keepers at the club.

The 31-year-old started 2023-24 as the Eagles' first-choice goalkeeper and made 23 appearances, but had his season ended early by an elbow injury.

Johnstone had been set to go to Euro 2024 with England as Jordan Pickford's understudy but missed the whole tournament.

Henderson came in and ended the season in good form as Palace finished 10th in the Premier League.

He also ended up taking Johnstone's place in the England squad, although he did not play a minute in Germany.

Johnstone has featured in pre-season for the Eagles but was not in the squad for their friendly against Nantes on Sunday.
