Torquay United manager Paul Wotton said his side "reacted well" after they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at fellow promotion chasers Worthing.
Joe Partington headed the hosts into a 15th-minute lead from a corner before Jordan Young equalised with a superb free-kick five minutes later.
Liam Nash's header gave Worthing the lead shortly before half-time.
But after Worthing's Sam Beard and Torquay's Sam Dreyer were sent off in quick succession in the final quarter, Torquay levelled in the second minute of stoppage time as Cody Cooke converted a penalty after he had been fouled in the box.
The point lifts Torquay to fourth place in National League South, three points off Worthing in second and six behind leaders Dorking Wanderers.
"It was a fantastic game," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.
"Two teams who've been up there all season going toe-to-toe.
"I actually think we shaded it overall, I'm glad we didn't lose the game.
"The two goals we conceded first half were really poor - we've got to stop that.
"But we reacted really well twice. A magnificent strike from Jordan Young, very similar to his goal in the FA Trophy here, and then Cody was calm with his penalty as well.
"So two set-pieces for us and two crosses from them and two free headers in the six-yard box, which is unacceptable really."
