Port Vale have signed left-back Liam Gordon after the Guyana defender rejected the offer of a new deal at Walsall.

The 26-year-old moves to the newly-promoted League One club on a two-year contract.

Gordon had been in discussions with the Saddlers but has opted to leave after their failed attempt to seal promotion from League Two alongside the Valiants.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Dagenham & Redbridge defender spent three seasons with Walsall, and featured for them 139 times across all competitions.

He started in Walsall's play-off final defeat by AFC Wimbledon in May, and spoke before the promotion decider about what it had taken to get there after fearing his foot may have to be amputated after a freak injury in training three years earlier.

"Liam is an exciting player who fits the profile of what we're looking for here at Vale Park and we're delighted that he's joining us," Vale boss Darren Moore told the club website., external
