Portsmouth have signed free agent John Swift following his departure from West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has agreed a two-year-deal at Fratton Park and returns to the club where he spent time in their academy as a youngster.

Swift's arrival is Pompey's second of the summer transfer window after signing Australian forward Adrian Segecic from Sydney FC in June.

Swift played 126 games for West Brom, having previously made over 200 appearances for Reading, where he scored 34 goals.

"John is a player with bags of Championship experience and is a real leader," Portsmouth boss John Mousinho said.

"He possesses all the qualities we were looking for in a midfielder, as the club look to build on what was a positive first campaign back at this level.

"We're delighted to add John to the squad relatively early in pre-season and I'm really looking forward to working with him as we build up to our first competitive fixture next month."
