Swansea City are increasingly hopeful they will win the race to sign Leyton Orient's Northern Ireland midfielder Ethan Galbraith.

The Championship club are long-time admirers of former Manchester United youngster Galbraith, with Swansea having first attempted to sign him during the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has been on Swansea's radar throughout the summer and it is understood progress has now been made in talks over a potential transfer.

Galbraith has only 12 months to run on his contract with Orient, who were beaten in last season's League One play-off final by Charlton Athletic.

But Swansea will still need to pay a significant fee if they are to secure Galbraith's services.

Charlton are one of a number of clubs who have been linked with Galbraith, a player who is capable of operating at full-back but is viewed primarily as a midfielder by the Swansea hierarchy.

Galbraith left his homeland to join Manchester United's academy in 2017.

He made one senior appearance for the Red Devils, in the Europa League in 2019, and had successful loan spells at Doncaster Rovers and Salford City before moving to Orient in 2023.

He has made 96 appearances for the London club and scored 11 goals.

Swansea are in need of midfield reinforcements following the retirement of Joe Allen and the January exit of long-time skipper Matt Grimes.

Lewis O'Brien had a successful loan spell with the Swans in the second half of last season.

They remain keen to bring the Nottingham Forest player back to south Wales, but are likely to face fierce competition for his signature.
