Manchester United assistant manager Charlotte Healy has been named head coach of Bristol City.

City have been without a permanent manager since 13 May when Stephen Kirby stepped down after one season in WSL 2, in which they finished sixth following relegation from the Women's Super League (WSL).

"I'm really excited to be here at such a big club with a rich history in the women's game. I'm delighted and can't wait to get going," said Healy.

"Providing opportunities for young players is really important - it's something I value and love doing. I love seeing players progress into the first team and I'm excited to be able to provide that opportunity to players in our pathway."

Healy, who joined United as under-21s manager in 2019, has been first-team assistant to Marc Skinner in recent years.

She played a key role in the team's success, helping them win a first major trophy with the Women's FA Cup and qualify for the Women's Champions League.

Becoming a head coach is another step up for Healy, who has taken on a number of roles in youth and first-team women's football at Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.

This week she temporarily joined up with the Republic of Ireland squad to help them prepare for two friendly matches against the USA, with manager Carla Ward and interim Liverpool boss Amber Whiteley.
