Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has named Calum Chambers as the club's new captain, with Rubin Colwill taking the vice-captain role.

The leadership positions at the club were vacant after the summer departures of Joe Ralls, Aaron Ramsey and Callum O'Dowda.

Barry-Murphy gave several players the opportunity to wear the armband during pre-season games, before choosing Chambers as the club's new skipper.

The 30-year-old centre-back is the oldest outfield player in the Cardiff squad going into the 2025-26 season, and joined the club in July 2024 after leaving Aston Villa.

The defender, who can also play in midfield, won three England caps in 2014 and spent eight years at Arsenal, where he won the FA Cup and Community Shield.

Chambers, who captained England at under-21 level, will be unable to lead the Bluebirds out for their first game back in League One against Peterborough on Saturday as he is suspended following a red card at Norwich City on the final day of last season.

The armband will therefore be worn by attacking midfielder Colwill, 23, who has spent his entire career with Cardiff, making more than 150 appearances for the club since his senior debut in February 2021.
