Reading head coach Ruben Selles said he expected the takeover of the club to be completed "months ago."
Four games into their League One campaign and the Royals have yet to announce the completion of the takeover by American lawyer and businessman Rob Couhig.
BBC Radio Berkshire understands that Couhig and current owner Dai Yongge are still locked in negotiations, which is causing the delay.
"I expected the takeover to be done two months ago," Selles said.
"I want it to happen and everything inside indicates to me that it will happen but how long will it take? I don’t know.
"I think everyone is doing their best but it complicated, I’m just waiting for it to be done so we can move on to the next chapter."
BBC Radio Berkshire also understand that the club are going through an internal process with head of football operations Mark Bowen surrounding his future.
Bowen was banned by the Football Association in July after being found guilty of placing 95 bets on football matches from April 2022 to January 2024.
Talk of Couhig's Reading takeover intensified when he recently attended one of their games at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and posted about it on social media.
He also updated his profile picture, external on X to an image of him stood in front of the club's badge.
"I don’t think Rob [Couhig] is the kind of person that gives up." Selles added.
"I think he is fighting for the deal and he really wants the club, I don’t think he will give up, that is my opinion.
"I just need to be ready for every scenario, that includes the situation with ownership but hopefully the best one will happen and Rob will get the club."
Reading have picked up seven points so far this season, with two wins, a draw and one defeat.
They host Leyton Orient on Saturday.
