Boss Tom Cleverley says he is delighted with Lorent Tolaj's start to his time at Plymouth Argyle.

The Swiss striker, who moved to the Pilgrims last month from Port Vale for more than £1m, scored his first league goal in the 4-2 win over Stockport County.

It came four days after he scored both goals in Argyle's 2-0 EFL Trophy win over Cheltenham Town at Home Park.

Tolaj joined Argyle late in the transfer window after the club had failed to land a number of other targets.

"Even if he'd had zero goals up to this point I would be telling you he's going to be a really good striker for this football club," Cleverley told BBC Sport.

"But the fact that he's shown what a good finisher is, he's scored all three goals of his left foot but he can hit them with his right.

"He's someone who's on a real quick upward trajectory through the leagues of English football - I don't think he's done here.

"I'm delighted that we've got that one done for sure. We've got the right number nine and we're pleased he's ours."

Tolaj controlled a high ball superbly before a clam left-footed finish against Stockport as he capped his fifth appearance since moving to Argyle with a goal.

Cleverley says he is a striker that has a great ability in many of the key aspects of playing up front.

"You can see he's an all-rounder - he'll hold the ball up, he'll compete, he'll press, and in front of goal is where he's really impressed me in training," said Cleverley.

"He's very calm, he's got good power in both feet.

"I think my heart rate slowed down when he went through, I was really confident that he'd score."
