Heart of Midlothian have signed Brazilian midfielder Ageu for an undisclosed fee, which the Edinburgh club say is their record transfer deal.

The 23-year-old arrives from Santa Clara in Portugal and has agreed a four-year contract.

Hearts describe the new arrival as "a dynamic player who is fond of going box-to-box," adding that the former Cruzeiro player has "a knack for unpicking defences with key passes".

Ageu played in Santa Clara's second tier title-winning side in 2023-24.

He was loaned out to Alverca last season, also helping them win promotion to the Primeira Liga, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.

Ageu is still awaiting a visa so is not likely to be involved on Saturday as Hearts visit Livingston in the Premiership.

Hearts' previous record fee is thought to be the £850,000 they paid Genk to sign Bosnian winger Mirsad Beslija in January 2006.
