Scotland assistant John Carver has been appointed head coach of Polish top-flight side Lechia Gdansk.

The 59-year-old Englishman - who joined Steve Clarke's set-up in August 2020 - will start his new role on 2 December, but the Ekstraklasa club have confirmed he will still assist the Scots for their Nations League play-off with Greece in March.

The former Newcastle and Leeds United caretaker boss has signed a deal with the Gdansk side until the end of the season, with an option to extend for additional year.

"As all parties agreed, during the international break in March 2025, Carver will accompany Scotland for their play-off match against Greece," a Lechia statement said.

The Polish club - whose technical director is former Leeds and Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell - earned promotion to the top flight last season, but are currently second bottom with two wins in 17 games.

Carver's last managerial post was an eight-month stint in charge of Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia in 2016-17.
