Torquay United manager Paul Wotton was critical of the referee after his side's 1-1 draw with 10-man St Albans City.

The Gulls boss felt his side should have had a penalty for handball in the first half and a spot-kick for a foul that left Omar Moussa needing to be carried off after the break.

Ed Palmer also needed stitches after appearing to be elbowed by an opponent from the league's bottom side.

"Two stonewall penalties. Where is the accountability? What do I do tomorrow? Do I get another phone call off the referee apologising? I'm sick of it," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

"It didn't quite fall for us in the box, we lacked a bit of composure at the right time in the final little instances, but again, a stonewall penalty on Omar Moussa, it's a penalty.

"I'd defy anyone to think that's not a penalty, but the man who matters the most obviously thought it wasn't.

"He's been stretchered off so it's a double whammy really. It's a penalty and we've gone down to 10 against 10 because he was causing them all sorts of problems, and if he'd have stayed on the pitch I think we would have scored."

Ben Seymour gave the Gulls a 50th-minute lead before Zane Banton equalised six minutes later.

Banton was sent off with 27 minutes to go as Torquay, who were 'embarrassed' by village side Bishops Cleeve in the FA Cup last week, failed to find a winner and stay fifth in National League South.

"What I will say is I'm proud of the players, they've had a really tough week," Wotton added.

"It's their fault they've had a tough week, but they've responded brilliantly and gave everything they've got for the football club today, so I'm tremendously proud of them."
