Torquay United manager Paul Wotton praised his side's 'guts' and 'fight' as they secured a late 1-0 win over Salisbury.
Cody Cooke's 85th-minute penalty ensured a first win in three matches as the Gulls moved up to fourth place in National League South.
The win sees Torquay three points off leaders Eastbourne Borough with a game in hand.
"I loved us. Yes we can play better, we can keep the ball better, we can create more chances," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.
"But I love a team that's got a bit of guts and a bit of fight and a bit of desire, and I think the fans love that as well.
"I thought Salisbury started like a train, they started really fast under the lights in front of a good crowd.
"I wouldn't say we had to weather a storm, but we definitely had to play differently, we had to sit off the game and sacrifice possession and all the boring stuff.
"Second half I genuinely felt that with our energy on the bench tonight I thought they'd make a difference and that proved to be the case."
