Peterborough United midfielder Hector Kyprianou is expected to be out of action until early December because of a hamstring injury.

He went off in the 28th minute of Posh's 3-0 defeat at Wigan on 1 October and the extent of the injury was confirmed by a scan.

Kyprianou has scored 11 goals in 86 league appearances for Peterborough since joining the League One club from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2022.

"We're looking at seven or eight weeks - he's going to be missing for a large chunk of time," boss Darren Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"Added to Chris (Conn-Clarke), Rio (Adebisi), Jadel (Katongo), there's a lot of players that are going to miss at least eight, nine, 10 games, but it is what it is.

"We're down to bare bones a little bit but that can happen over the course of a season, we just have to get on with it."

Ferguson said that it was important to study muscle injuries carefully.

"I think the problem with Hector is he actually felt a twinge after 10 minutes and carried on," the Posh boss added.

"If he'd come off at that point, you'd probably have been looking at one or two weeks because the muscle wouldn't have gone completely. The fact that he carried on for 15 minutes is a mistake he made."

Peterborough face Stevenage in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Tuesday and have been boosted by Joel Randall's return to the squad.

The midfielder was left out for two league games because of his attitude in training - but returned on Saturday as a second-half substitute as Posh beat the same opponents 2-1.

"The reception he got off the fans was positive. He's a very good player at this level and I think we just draw a line under it," said Ferguson.

"It was good for him to get 45 minutes, he enjoyed it and had an impact on the game. It's been dealt with."
