Matt Vernon has been named as the new head coach of Northampton Town Women, replacing Josh Oldfield.

He will be assisted by Jordan Williams, the pair having previously been first-team coaches at Histon FC.

Oldfield stepped down last month after leading the team to two promotions and last season's second place in Women's National League Division One Midlands, the highest finish in the club's history.

He has switched to a role in the club's youth development programme.

"What an opportunity for myself and Jordan to be at a prestigious, professional football club," said Vernon.

"The players had a really good environment under the previous manager so it's up to us to build on that and add our stance on it with how we think we can continue moving forward."

Vernon and Williams will take charge for the first time in Saturday's game against Stourbridge at Sixfields.
