Torquay United closed the gap on their rivals at the top of National League South with a 1-0 win at fellow high-fliers Dorking Wanderers.

Jordan Dyer headed home an 81st-minute corner to extend Torquay's unbeaten run to six matches.

The victory keeps the Gulls in sixth place in the table on goal difference - they are level on 71 points with fifth-placed Dorking and fourth-placed Boreham Wood.

Third-placed Eastbourne are a point ahead while second-placed Truro are two points better off, with leaders Worthing on 77 points.

"I thought we were good today," Torquay manager Paul Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

"It's another three points, we had eight cup finals before today, now we've got seven, we just keep plugging away.

"I thought we defended, really, really well - I can't remember my goalie really having a save to make.

"We didn't want to come here and sit on the edge of our box for 98 minutes because Dorking would have scored, and we knew we had to be better with the ball.

"So all in all, it's only three points, but it's a really good reaction to Tuesday night's disappointment."
