Chesterfield co-owner Phil Kirk has entered palliative care after treatment for his inoperable cancer was unsuccessful.

The League Two side announced in March this year that the 59-year-old, who first invested in the club in 2022 with his brother and co-owner Ashley, had been diagnosed with cancer.

"Phil and his family remain deeply committed to the ongoing support of the club and its community," they said in a statement., external

"The club will continue to operate as normal, and we are united in ensuring Phil's vision and values remain at the heart of everything we do."

Chesterfield finished seventh in League Two last season and have won their opening two games this campaign.
