Josh Benson made 80 league appearances in four seasons with Barnsley

Rotherham United have signed former Barnsley midfielder Josh Benson on a one-year deal following a successful trial.

The 25-year-old was a free agent after leaving the Tykes after four years at the end of last season.

He could make his competitive debut for the Millers in their League One season-opener at home to Port Vale on Saturday, 2 August.

"Pre-season has been good, the boys are looking sharp and I can't wait for the season to get going," he told the club website.

The deal for the ex-Burnley man also includes the option of an additional year in the club's favour.
