Scottish Cup winners Aberdeen have reported a £2m loss for the year to June, after a season without European football but with an increase in player trading profit.

The Dons did not feature in a Uefa competition in Jimmy Thelin's first season in charge, 2024-25, but have ended up in this term's Conference League after ending a 35-year wait to win Scottish football's oldest trophy.

The loss for the previous year was £880,000.

Turnover fell almost £2m to £21.7m, with operating expenses up by almost £2.5m to £26.5m.

Gains on disposal of players' registrations neared £5.3m, up from £1.3m.

North Macedonia striker Bojan Miovski, now with Rangers, was sold by Aberdeen to Girona for a record £6.8m during the accounting period.

The Dons finished fifth last season in the Scottish Premiership, despite a strong start to the campaign.

Aberdeen women, managed by former Pittodrie forward Scott Booth, finished eighth in the Scottish Women's Premier League.

Progress from academy to first team is target

Chairman Dave Cormack said: "The club's wages to turnover ratio increased to 70% from 54% during the previous year as a result of a £2.4m increase in football investment and reduced income due to no European club competition participation.

"In June 2025, the majority shareholders in the club, including my family, Tom Crotty and Roger Lee, invested a further £8m to develop and enhance our facilities and to provide working capital.

"With the club planning to spend £12m on its academy and development players over the next five years, we need to see real tangible progress in these players progressing to the first team.

"Going forward, there will be a greater emphasis on our top talents being exposed to senior competitive football through our newly announced club co-operation arrangements and an extensive loan programme."
