Norwich City boss Liam Manning called on his players to take more personal responsibility in games following their sixth successive home defeat of the season.

The Canaries went down 1-0 to his former club Bristol City, a result which left them 20th in the table.

"We need a few to start stepping up and owning performances because everything is just too nice around the place - we have to try and change that," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"There was some nice football but nothing at the end of it, not enough aggression, not enough purpose, not enough intent when you're losing a game to get on the front foot and change it.

"Too many people are passing on the responsibility and not being brave enough. I can't play the game for them, we can give them games plans and solutions, but the second the whistle blows you need people to step up."

Manning admitted the squad "needs a lot of work" and were leaving striker Josh Sargent to feed off "scraps and half chances" only.

"Have we go the composition right? I don't know," he admitted.

Asked about his own future and whether the club could be facing a relegation battle this season, he said: "It's a bit early for that. We are in a tough period at the minute and we have to change that.

"I wouldn't be stood here now if I wasn't up for the job. I've had to fight to get here and my default is to get my head down and keep fighting, keep pushing until I'm told different."

Norwich will be away to Derby County on Tuesday evening.
