Germany winger Leroy Sane has signed for Turkish club Galatasaray on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Turkish champions, with the club announcing he will earn a guaranteed £7.66m a year, external plus a loyalty bonus.

But he will now travel to the United States to play for Bayern in the Club World Cup before joining his new club on 30 June.

He could feature in three group games for Bayern against Auckland City, Boca Juniors and Benfica as well as a potential last-16 game.

More than one million supporters tuned into a live broadcast on Galatasaray's YouTube channel on Tuesday of a flight tracker, showing Sane's plane arriving in Istanbul.

Sane joined Bayern Munich on a five-year deal from Manchester City in 2020 and has won six league titles in his career.

Galatasaray won the Turkish league title this season, beating Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce by 11 points.

Bundesliga champions Bayern were keen on keeping the winger beyond the summer, but Sane rejected the offer of a contract extension.

Bayern included Sane in their 29-man squad for the Club World Cup, which begins on 15 June, and he now faces the unusual situation of potentially playing again for the team after committing to another club.

He scored 61 goals in 220 matches for Bayern, including 13 in 45 matches last season.
