Torquay keen to extend Jenkins-Davies loan

Will Jenkins-Davies has scored three goals in his last two Torquay United appearances

Torquay United boss Paul Wotton says he wants to extend Will Jenkins-Davies' loan spell after a starring role in the 4-1 win at Enfield Town.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who is on loan from Plymouth Argyle until January, scored twice in a victory that kept the Gulls third in National League South.

"I thought he was the best player on the pitch by a million miles," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

"Anyone who says different I'm not sure what game they were watching.

"Even in the first 20 minutes where we were off it, I felt that Will was the one who was trying to carry the fight to Enfield, trying to make it happen, trying to win his headers and his tackles.

"He's just an infectious lad, he's a great lad and hopefully we can keep him for longer than we've got him."

Enfield took the lead after two minutes thanks to Sam Youngs' penalty, but Jordan Thomas drew Torquay level on the half-hour.

Jenkins-Davies put Torquay ahead three minutes later before Jordan Young got a third shortly after the second half had begun.

Jenkins-Davies, who scored eight goals in 36 appearances for the Gulls while on loan at the club last season, wrapped up the win with his second goal 10 minutes from the end.

"It was as bad a start as you could wish to have, it was a really poor penalty to concede and you're 1-0 down, basically you may as well have come out of changing room 1-0 down," added Wotton.

"I thought we looked a bit lethargic and a bit leggy and a bit off it, and the first goal sparked us into life really.

"From that moment I thought we were in total control of the game and it ended up being a good day for us."
