Torquay United manager Paul Wotton has criticised his side following their 1-0 loss to fellow National League South high-fliers Maidstone United.

Charlie Seaman's goal inside the final 15 minutes was enough to extend the Gulls' winless run to four games as they dropped from second to sixth in the table.

They are now five points behind Maidstone, who are second, and leaders Dorking Wanderers in the tight race at the top of the table.

"I don't think we were good enough," Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

"I felt Maidstone were sharper into second balls, I thought they dominated the midfield.

"I'm not going to say it was a case of it looked like they wanted it more than us, but that's not a good enough performance away from home against a top four, top three, team."

He added: "We've prepped all week, we knew exactly what was coming and I thought in attacking areas of we lacked quality today.

"I thought out final decision, our final cross, our final pass was really poor, I'm very disappointed.

"The three games before today were missed opportunities when I felt we played very well, but I don't think we played well at all today."
