Burnley 'condemn' alleged abuse of Watford player

Lancashire Police are investigating an allegation of racial abuse aimed at a Watford player during yesterday's Championship match at Turf Moor.

The Clarets, who won the game 2-1, released a club statement, external appealing for witnesses and said that they "will ensure that those responsible are held accountable."

The statement also said: "Burnley Football Club is deeply concerned by allegations of abuse directed towards a Watford player during the first half of today's fixture at Turf Moor.

"Discrimination has absolutely no place in football or society and we condemn such behaviour in the strongest possible terms."

Watford urged anyone with information to come forward and added, external: "Watford FC will be offering its fullest support to the player towards whom the alleged abuse was directed."
