Rangers top SWPL with Queen's Park drubbing

Kirsty Howat scored twice in Rangers' 9-0 victory

Rangers head to the summit of the SWPL table after a huge 9-0 victory over Queen's Park.

Kirsty Howat got Rangers off the mark after 17 minutes and quick-fire goals from Chelsea Cornet, Brogan Hay and Rio Hardy made it 4-0 inside half an hour.

Defender Kathy Hill bagged her first goal of the season to put Rangers five in front before the break.

Howat opened the scoring in the second half before efforts from substitutes Katie Wilkinson and Laura Berry were added to by a Queen's Park own goal in stoppage time.

Jo Potter's side take over at the top of the table on goal difference.

Celtic maintained their winning start to the season with a 5-1 victory over Motherwell.

Saoirse Noonan opened the scoring after just three minutes as she tapped in from close range.

Lucy Ashworth-Clifford and Amy Gallacher were also on the scoresheet in the first half to make it 3-0.

Motherwell's Morgan Cross replied for the visitors early in the second half and it looked like a comeback could have been on for Paul Brownlie's side.

But goals from Murphy Agnew and Maria McAneny soon doused any hopes of an upset.

Hibs also made it three wins from three and moved up to third by hitting Dundee United for six.

Summer signing Linzi Taylor grabbed her first and second goal for Hibs in the first half as Eilidh Adams also netted a brace and Mya Christie made it five before the interval.

Former Hearts attacker Kathleen McGovern got her third of the season when she was subbed on in the second half to complete the rout.

Hearts dropped from first to fourth after Glasgow City managed to nab all three points late on at their temporary home of K-Park.

Amy Muir opened the scoring for City but there was drama at the end of the first half as Kimberley Smit was shown a red card and gave away a penalty.

Hearts' Lisa Robertson converted from the spot but new signing Sofia Maatta stepped up with five minutes left on the clock to make it 2-1.

Partick Thistle edge out Spartans to bag their first win of the season in a 2-1 victory at Ainslie Park.

Caley Gibb got Thistle off the mark with just two minutes played in Edinburgh before Tiree Burchill doubled the visitors' lead inside 10 minutes.

Spartans' Hannah Jordan found a response with half an hour left to play.

Thistle managed to see the game out despite being reduced to 10 players in injury time when Claire Adams was shown a red card.

Aberdeen also earned their first win of the season, beating Montrose 2-0.

Having lost manager Colin Bell earlier this week, they were led by interim boss Stuart Glennie.

Niamh Noble and Emily Kraft grabbed their first goals for the Dons and Montrose could not find a response.

They remain at the bottom end of the table without a point on the board.
