As the men's European Championship approaches its end, qualifying for the women's Euros is hotting up.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all in contention to qualify for Euro 2025, which will be held in Switzerland next summer.

Reigning European champions England can qualify automatically, while Scotland and Wales are guaranteed a play-off spot. Northern Ireland still have everything to play for.

Here is how things are shaping up.

How does Euro 2025 qualifying work?

Teams are competing in groups of three or four in a round-robin format, across three divisions - Leagues A, B and C.

The top two teams in each League A group qualify automatically for Euro 2025. The remaining seven qualification spots will be decided by play-offs this year.

So far, three teams have qualified - hosts Switzerland, Germany, and world champions Spain.

In the first round of the play-offs, the teams finishing third and fourth in League A will play the five group winners and three best runners-up in League C. The eight winners progress to the second round.

Also, the four group winners and two best runners-up in League B will be drawn against the worst two runners-up and four third-placed teams in that division. The six winners go through.

In the second round, the 14 remaining teams come together and will be drawn into seven ties. The winners of those matches qualify for Euro 2025.

Two wins will do for England

Remaining fixtures

12 July: England v Republic of Ireland, Carrow Road, Norwich, 20.00 BST

16 July: Sweden v England, Gamla Ullevi, Gothenburg, 18.00

England made a shaky start to qualifying, with one point from two home games so far after a draw with Sweden and defeat by France.

However, they earned a crucial win in France last time out to leave qualification for Euro 2025 in their hands.

If Sarina Wiegman's side win both their remaining matches, they will qualify automatically regardless of results elsewhere.

If England beat the Republic of Ireland and Sweden lose to France, then a draw in Gothenburg will be enough to send the Lionesses to Switzerland.

Scotland aiming for top spot

Remaining fixtures

12 July: Slovakia v Scotland, Stadion pod Zoborom, Nitra, 18.00

16 July: Scotland v Serbia, Firhill, Glasgow, 18.00

Scotland have already guaranteed their place in the play-offs, and are now aiming to finish top of their group in order to gain promotion to League A for the next round of the Women's Nations League.

They can do so by winning their remaining two matches, or with a point in their final match against Serbia, should Serbia fail to beat Israel in their next game.

Northern Ireland one win from play-offs

Remaining fixtures

12 July: Malta v Northern Ireland, Centenary Stadium, Ta' Qali, 18.30

16 July: Northern Ireland v Bosnia-Herzegovina, Windsor Park, Belfast, 18.00

Northern Ireland will secure a play-off spot with at least two points from their final two matches.

Tanya Oxtoby's side will reach the play-offs if they win in Malta on Friday, or draw then avoid defeat against Bosnia-Herzegovina in their last match.

Winning these final two matches would mean Northern Ireland climb to second in the group, and potentially earn a more favourable draw in the play-offs as they aim to qualify for a second consecutive Euros finals.

Wales in shootout with Croatia

Remaining fixtures

12 July: Croatia v Wales, Stadion Branko Cavlovic-Cavlek, Karlovac, 19.15

16 July: Wales v Kosovo, Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli, 18.00

Wales are guaranteed a play-off place, and could still win the group to gain promotion to League A for the 2025-26 Nations League.

They will go top of the group if they win in Croatia on Friday, then their much superior goal difference would mean they effectively only need a point at home to Kosovo. If Wales lose in Karlovac, Croatia win the group.
