Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell says he is pleased with the additions the club made on transfer deadline day.

Caldwell added experienced defender Danny Andrew on a 12-month deal while West Brom forward Akeel Higgins and Bolton winger Carlos Mendes Gomes joined on season-long loans.

It meant City brought in 11 new faces over the summer window, as well as turning Johnly Yfeko's loan move from Rangers into a permanent transfer.

"I think we've made, for a deadline day, really good signings to add to the group that has started well," Caldwell said.

"I said they needed support and needed some help and I think we've managed to do that.

"So we're really excited, I think we have to be patient and build those players up."

Andrew, 34, who joined from Stockport County, and Mendes Gomes, 26, bring EFL experience into the squad while 20-year-old forward Higgins has yet to play a senior first-team game.

"We have to be patient with Akeel, we've had first time loans before and we know how big the step up is from academy football but we are really excited about him," Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon.

"He's really settled quickly and has a great personality and has shown his quality in training, so we're really excited.

"But we know with first loans that it's going to take him time to get up to speed physically and to get to the demands of League One, but he's another great addition."

He added: "We knew the types player we wanted to bring in.

"It took us right to the last minute to do that, and I always say we have to be patient - hopefully it's not always as patient as this year and right to the last day and the last minutes.

"But two great attacking players and options to add to the quality we already have in the building, and Danny is a brilliant addition and adds versatility to the backline as well."
