Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell has condemned racist abuse directed at midfielder Caleb Watts.

The 23-year-old was targeted on social media following Exeter's 1-0 loss at Birmingham City on Saturday.

It is the second time this month that Exeter have reported racist abuse of one of their players after Josh Magennis was allegedly targeted by a Bolton Wanderers fan on 4 January.

"I just find it incredible that it still happens in this day and age that people would choose to go on social media, or even in Josh's case say it at a stadium," Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon.

"That we still have to deal with this issue, I find it incredible.

"I think Caleb and Josh are really brave to come out and make it known and let the authorities know.

"We put the statement out and internally we will deal with that, and hopefully whoever it is gets caught and gets punished for it because it's something that just should not be in society in 2025."

He added: "That people choose to do that in this day and age blows my mind a little bit.

"I don't know what can be done to fix the problem because it's been here for hundreds of years and the quicker we can fix it the better it will be for everyone."
