1. 'Wolves' players are cowards'published at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time

    Stephen Warnock
Former Premier League defender on the Monday Night Club

There are no goals in the team. I know everybody goes on about Matheus Cunha - he's a talent but he can't score. He scores a worldie every now and again but he's not going to score 15 goals to keep you up.

Another thing that really surprises me is why you would sell Raul Jimenez? I know it wasn't last season but for a player of that quality, he is exactly what Wolves need. He will chip in with 10 goals a season, maybe more and it's his work rate off the ball - the tenacity up front to pester defenders constantly.

None of the Wolves players are pests. I don't look at any Wolves player and think I wouldn't fancy playing against them. A few of them are nasty in a way but they are cowards when they do it. Anyone can be nasty after the final whistle, that's brave.

Listen to the Monday Night Club.

Ambitionless appointment. Moyes, Mourinho, Allardyce, Ten Hag all much better choices with Premier League experience, but the bloke from the Saudi Pro League is probably cheaper. Disappointed.

Feel Pereira has bags of experience but if he doesn't receive backing from the Wolves board in January, or a better mindset Wolves, they will be too far gone!

Wolves sacked manager Gary O'Neil in the wake of Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Ipswich Town.

The departure of the 41-year-old and his backroom staff came just three days after chairman Jeff Shi said the club were "united" behind O'Neil following Monday's 2-1 defeat at West Ham.

Saturday's defeat was their 11th in the Premier League this season - they have had only two wins - and leaves Wolves 19th, four points from safety.

Shi said: "We're very grateful to Gary for all of his effort, dedication and hard work during his time at the club, and we wish him and his team the best of luck for the future."

O'Neil replaced Julen Lopetegui just four days before the start of the 2023-24 season, with Wolves going on to finish 14th.

Is Vitor Pereira the right man for Wolves? What's that classic saying? You can't buy experience...

    He has plenty of that.

Former Porto boss Vitor Pereira has agreed an 18-month deal to become Wolves' new head coach.

The Premier League strugglers are paying around 1m euros to bring the Al-Shabab boss to the Midlands.

Pereira, who won two titles as Porto manager in 2011 and 2012, was due to travel to England on Tuesday and could be confirmed at Molineux as early as tonight, as long as there are no late problems, but negotiations have gone smoothly.

The 56-year-old's first game will be at Leicester on Sunday with Wolves second bottom, five points behind the 17th-placed Foxes.

Wolves have lost 11 of their 16 games and sacked head coach Gary O'Neil on Sunday following Saturday's 2-1 defeat by fellow strugglers Ipswich.

  12. 'My players make more good decisions than the referees'published at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time

Southampton v Liverpool (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was asked again about his touchline suspension and whether he needed to change his behaviour after receiving three yellow cards this season: "I think in general I am calm, but, I don't know if it is smart to say this, but there is also a limit for me - let's put it that way - and then I can get emotional.

"Unfortunately that limit is only reached by refereeing decisions, more so than the decision my players make, because they make more good decisions than the referees do. In my opinion. For my team.

"The Chelsea game was emotional. We should have had a second penalty but the VAR changed it. This game I think there were a lot of controversial decisions being made.

"So, as I said, the Chelsea game was emotional and maybe I should stay just underneath [the line] than going above. It is what it is."

Newcastle v Brentford (Wed, 19:45 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Lewis Hall and whether he is one of the best left-backs in the country at the moment: "I think he has played very well this season. He has been very consistent and has been a real shining light for us in terms of being the same Lewis home or away. For someone so young, that is not easy to do. I think his technical delivery this year has been outstanding - in all phases. I think his final ball can improve but it was great to see him with two assists at the weekend. Defensively he has been pretty good but again there are areas he can improve and develop but he is certainly moving in the right direction. For someone so young, how he has handled himself, the maturity he has shown on and off the pitch has been really high level."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on whether he will pick his strongest possible team tomorrow: "Every game is a cup final. When you're managing Newcastle, you can't afford to lose any game and certainly any team I pick is with that view - it's always with the view that I think this team can win and I will certainly try and do that tomorrow."
