The BBC's FA Cup coverage for the 2025/26 season gets underway with coverage of the first qualifying round, as ninth tier Tadley Calleva play host to Weymouth this Saturday from 12:20pm, in what Tadley are hoping will be another shock result in a week of upsets.

Tadley’s unusual nomenclature stems from a Roman settlement, Calleva Atrebatum, that was once sited nearby.

Relegated from the National League South in April, Weymouth are arguably the biggest team in the competition at this stage, and have enjoyed numerous cup runs down the years, most notably reaching the 4th Round back in 1962.

More recently, they’ve faced the likes of Nottingham Forest (2005) and AFC Wimbledon (2022) in the ‘proper’ stages, however an indifferent start to this season has this week seen them part company with manager Warren Feeney and chairman Paul Maitland.

That’s led to the re-appointment of Weymouth legend Steve Claridge, who had three spells as a player and a previous run as manager with the Terras.

Calleva, who proudly display brooms on their crest in homage to a Besom Broom manufacturer in Tadley, known to have made brooms for Harry Potter and the Royal Family, are a step five club who have never previously been beyond the first qualifying round.

Saturday will be a huge occasion for the club, and one they’re not taking lightly.

Anything is possible after the week that Weymouth have had, and it is the FA Cup after all…
