It really does [feel like a missed opportunity for Ipswich]. Coming off the Wolves defeat and when United go down to ten men you’d fancy Ipswich, they get the goal, get it to 2-2 just before half-time and to concede so early [in the second half], Harry Maguire from a free header - it’s a poor one to concede.

This is a massive missed opportunity and you really fear for Ipswich now because you can’t throw away these opportunities.

  3. Amorim will speak to Garnacho about sub reactionpublished at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at Old Trafford

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim said he would speak to Alejandro Garnacho after the winger went straight to the dressing room when he was substituted in the first half of the 3-2 win against Ipswich.

Amorim replaced Argentina international Garnacho with defender Noussair Mazraoui two minutes before half-time following Patrick Dorgu's red card.

It was raining heavily at Old Trafford and Garnacho seemed to indicate he wanted to take his shirt off, so he headed down the touchline to the dressing room rather than take a place on the bench.

It is not known whether he stayed for the second half.

"I am going to talk with Garnacho about that," said Amorim.

In December, the 20-year-old attacker was dropped for the derby against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium along with Marcus Rashford, partly due to his poor performance in training and his attitude.

Unlike Rashford, who has not played for United since and is now on loan at Aston Villa, Garnacho returned to first-team duties immediately.

  5. 'Not one player pointing the finger'published at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa striker on Football Daily

You have to be held accountable for your individual performance and if your teammate is not doing it you have to tell him as well but nobody does it. When things go wrong for Manchester United there’s not one player that is pointing the finger.

I'm not sure if you can do it anymore. I'm probably talking like a dinosaur.

I don't think there's anybody that has the confidence in that United dressing room to take that lead. They're leaving it to everybody else.

  6. 'When you're down to ten you see what you're about'published at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time

    Aaron Lennon
Former Tottenham midfielder on Football Daily

Manchester United went down to ten, conceded a goal, they’ve gone in at half time and you’d think they’re going to have a tough half here. They have come out, got the early goal and dug in. That’s what you’ve got to do.

I think Ruben Amorim will be really impressed then because sometimes in these games when you are down to ten men you start to really see what your players are about.

I think he will have seen a lot from this United team that he would have been really impressed with tonight.

  7. Maguire gives 10-man United winpublished at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at Old Trafford

Ten-man Manchester United recovered from gifting Ipswich a fourth-minute opener at Old Trafford to come out on top in a five-goal thriller thanks to Harry Maguire's header.

Maguire powered home Bruno Fernandes' corner two minutes into the second half to give Ruben Amorin only his third home Premier League win.

United's success came despite having Patrick Dorgu sent off before the break following the intervention of VAR Craig Pawson after his awful tackle on Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson had been missed by referee Darren England.

Ipswich immediately capitalised on the extra man to level when Jaden Philogene's touchline cross curled in at the far corner as Andre Onana failed to react.

That was not Onana's worst mistake of the night as the goalkeeper started the game by getting too close to Dorgu as the defender attempted to deal with a long ball downfield. Instead, Dorgu played the ball past Onana to present Philogene with a tap-in.

It was just the start of a crazy opening as United levelled thanks to Ipswich skipper Sam Morsy, who as he was trying to stop Rasmus Hojlund challenging for Fernandes' deep free-kick planted a firm header straight into his own net.

Four minutes later, United took the lead as Maguire and Diogo Dalot both had attempts on goal saved before the ball broke kindly for Matthijs de Ligt, who scored.

At that point, it seemed the home side would coast to victory. The reality was far more entertaining. Nothing is quite so simple at Manchester United these days.

Anyone saying that Liverpool have been lucky or won by default are a bit clueless. Part of winning the league is having a well run club, managing injuries, squad rotation, keeping staff happy (not just players). Liverpool have excelled and are rightfully top of the pile.

When you see the lads after the game doing the runs at the tempo they are doing it at, it shows you what squad Liverpool have there. It shows you what they believe.

They are buying into everything the manager says, the fitness guys say 'look lads you've played 20 minutes, come on do the runs'.

This is vital for the spirit of the team. This is great to see.

This is the champions here, this is the sign of champions.

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

    Aaron Lennon

Arsenal get more excited for a corner than they do from stuff in open play - it’s so unusual for Arsenal. When you used to watch Arsenal it was playing through the lines, get it in to Martin Odegaard, silky football.

Now you see them going up for a corner and you see them buzzing - like this is a real chance.

We’ve never seen that from Arsenal. It’s a big worry for me.

  13. 'Forest love the underdog mentality'published at 08:47 Greenwich Mean Time

    Forest 0-0 Arsenal

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former Nottingham Forest striker Robert Earnshaw, speaking to BBC 5 Live Breakfast about the club's form this season: "They will give chances to the other team, but they love this underdog mentality, kind of play on the fast break a little bit and transition where they'll sit back and then just hit you with their pace and their finishing. Chris Wood had a couple of little moments where you thought, oh, this is it.

"I was there for the Liverpool game a few weeks ago, at the City Ground. And you always feel like Forest will have the chance. It's just whether they can take it. And to be honest, nine times out of ten, they take it. Last night, it just wasn't to be.

"And they'll take that. And the Forest fans will take that. They understand the position that they're in. They understand where Arsenal are.

"Any more points as they go towards the season now, it just takes them further and further into that Champions League spot. It just makes it stronger."

The fact that there is such a tight mix in mid-table shows that the league is in fact more competitive than ever, as a whole. Just look at the race for Champions League spots. Liverpool for their part have just been better than the competition this season, and are where they are on merit.

  16. 'We lacked spark'published at 08:32 Greenwich Mean Time

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal's Premier League title challenge looks all but over this season, even if manager Mikel Arteta will not publicly admit it.

In their past two Premier League matches, Arsenal have had 33 shots, but just three on target and no goals.

Arteta said: "We dominated the game. We tried in many different ways. We insisted but lacked that spark, that final pass to unlock a well-organised team. We have to generate more shots on target."

While Arsenal undoubtedly have not been helped by injuries to forwards Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, there seems little doubt they will be stepping up their search for a goalscorer in the summer.

  17. 'An excellent draw for Forest'published at 08:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    Forest 0-0 Arsenal

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former Nottingham Forest striker Robert Earnshaw, speaking to BBC 5 Live Breakfast about their 0-0 draw with Arsenal last night: "I think it was an excellent draw, because you've got to have the bigger context, the bigger picture. Nottingham Forest are fighting for Champions League now and fighting for the title.

"It's strange to say after the last two seasons, but it was second versus third. And it was less pressure on Nottingham Forest playing at home, the pressure was all on Arsenal.

"I said yesterday about Arsenal that it was a must win because for them to be in any title race against this Liverpool, I think they had to be perfect from yesterday onwards, win every single game and they didn't do that.

"I think now I've got to concede the title really, because I think Liverpool will go and win it. I think it's done now. It's too many points. But Nottingham Forest, excellent again.

"They seem to perform against the big teams and they've got points off Liverpool, points off Arsenal. So in an excellent, excellent position."

  19. Arsenal's title hopes fade furtherpublished at 08:17 Greenwich Mean Time

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Arsenal's slim title hopes faded further after a frustrating stalemate at Nottingham Forest.

Before this game, with the Gunners 11 points behind Liverpool and having a game in hand, boss Mikel Arteta vowed to keep fighting, but it is surely now a futile chase after Wednesday's results.

They needed to win at Forest but lacked a cutting edge, despite dominating possession, with their attacking options blunted by injury.

Without the injured Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino were neat and tidy up front but offered no focal point.

The closest Arsenal came was when full-back Riccardo Calafiori's effort bounced off the post and into Matz Sels' arms midway through the first half, before the goalkeeper saved Merino's header soon after the break.

The draw kept alive Forest's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season, sitting six points behind Arsenal and two clear of Chelsea in fifth.
