England v Serbia (Thu, 19:45 GMT)

    England

Talking about consistency Alex, here's a final word from England defender Ezri Konsa: "We've had a great few camps. We know we're already qualified but we want to win the next two games to keep the standards and stay consistent.

"They [Serbia] have a new coach and great players as well so it will be a tough game, but we've got to be ready."

Should Tuchel not just pick the team that played last international break? We don't want to disrupt a team that felt like it was building and had a good balance.

More from Ezri Konsa on who drives the standards with England: "We all drive the standards, that's what we're here for. Jude [Bellingham] and Phil [Foden] are great players and great additions to the team, but it's the same standards when they come - everyone drives it, not just him [Bellingham]."

I don't think any "nailed-on starters" should play a minute in these games, given how many games there are. Rice, Saka, Kane, Bellingham and probably Guehi should get a rest. Use their places to give chances to others who haven't yet got one.

More from Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa on his journey to becoming an international player with England: "Working with Unai [Emery] the last three seasons has been really important. I've looked at football differently, the way he wants us to play, the style of play and it's been amazing, my growth in football. Hopefully I can stay consistent in my whole season."

One way Emery has developed his game: "That centre-backs start the build-up. Take time with the ball, make sure you go into the opposition and drive into them and don't pass too early. Since he's come in I've managed to do that. I'm enjoying my football."

What happens if Harry Kane gets an injury. Where is the back-up? We should be testing someone else out up front for these two games, previously tested or not. We know Toney has being playing a lower league level in Saudi but he has scored plenty of goals there.

England defender Ezri Konsa on how the team build their standards: "That comes down to everyone in the group and obviously we've got a great captain in Harry Kane who sets the standards everyday in training. For me, and especially the young boys as well, when you see a player like Harry Kane who is always setting standards and the quality that he brings, it comes naturally for you as well.

"You want to keep the standards and it's something that he reminds us of in every training session and every game. You see Harry Kane and the likes of John Stones setting standards, it comes naturally to you."

I love TT’s v direct, simple and logical answers to speculation. Obviously what happens on the pitch matters most; that said, a clear-headed, clear-thinking unemotional manager is a joy to listen to. I expect players must feel the same.

England defender Ezri Konsa on being a leader to the younger players: "I speak to everyone and get along with everyone, especially the young boys, but they've all been at top clubs. Been around a lot of experience and a lot of great quality players. Whatever way I can help, I'll help them."

Of course you're not getting carried away Rob, of course.

No, I know what you mean.

Thomas Tuchel spoke really well in Friday's news conference and again today.

And with the results and performances he has been getting out of this England squad, the manager, players and supporters have every reason to feel positive right now.

OK, let's move on to the top lines from Ezri Konsa's news conference...

There is no point keeping Marc Guehi with the squad, considering his injury. We have qualified and he is the number one centre-back we have. Send him back to the Palace medical team to get treatment and rest. Simple is better.

A final word from England manager Thomas Tuchel on team news: "Everybody is in training in the afternoon except for Marc Guehi."

More on Guehi's injury: "With Marc it is very painful but there is no structural damage so it is all about the pain. There is the possibility that from one day to the other there is a significant improvement so we are working realistically towards the second game. If he is not in training on Friday and not able to train on Saturday then we will not make him travel with us and he will of course get rest and treatment.

"We want him to stay with us, want him to stay close. He is one of the leaders, he is an important member of the team. He is glue between many players and it is nice to see that he is trying everything to be included in the second game. We will assess him every day."

On Elliot Anderson's fitness: "He said there is nothing to manage, he feels good, he feels no pain and he is ready to go."

  15. 'We were driving the levels and standards without Bellingham and Foden'published at 12:38 GMT

England v Serbia (Thu, 19:45 GMT)

    England

England manager Thomas Tuchel on what he expects from Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham: "I expect what they show. Be straightaway part of the group and why should it be awkward for them? We were driving the levels and standards without them. We are obliged to drive our own standards and build what we can build. Now they are back and it is their responsibility to contribute to this and it is what they are doing. The standards are clear."

  16. 'It is the pinnacle to play for England and that is how it should feel'published at 12:37 GMT

England v Serbia (Thu, 19:45 GMT)

    England

Thomas Tuchel was asked if he has done anything to guard against players "choosing" club over playing for England: "Not knowingly, but what we are trying is to build a strong bond, to build an energy, a team, a brotherhood that everybody wants to join and to also build a competition that everybody knows that if they pull out in the wrong moment - the door can be closed because someone else will take their place.

"It is not as a threat but the other way around - everybody is keen to come, everybody loves to come to camp, loves to perform for the country because it is an honour. It is the last step of elite football to represent a country like England in a World Cup qualifier or the World Cup itself. It is the pinnacle and that is how it should feel.

"We are absolutely on the way. Everybody wanted to be part of the camp. Everybody was desperate to come. Nobody is giving me signals that it is time to rest because we have already qualified and we will also not accept it. It is an energy that feeds itself and this at the moment is the place where we are.

"It is the absolute key to keep this. Before tactics and before personnel. It is the key that everybody loves to be in camp and enjoys it,"

  17. 'Five-nil win was mainly down to our quality'published at 12:32 GMT

England v Serbia (Thu, 19:45 GMT)

    England

England manager Thomas Tuchel was asked if his opinion on Serbia has changed since the last game: "I still think they were a great team with a great record in Belgrade and it was mostly down to us that we did not let Serbia show their quality. It was mainly down to our quality. We did not let Serbia breathe or get into the match. Now, it is a new coach with new energy and the same strong, proud group of players and we have to do it again.

"This is what football and elite sport is all about. It does not allow you to look back and misinterpret the last game into an easy match. We will have to put a lot into it tomorrow.

"We don't know what is coming from the structure, we can just guess and presume what we think is coming when we analyse the coach's teams so it is a big test for us to adapt in the game, adapt in our press and adapt in our shape depending on what the opponent is offering. We basically have no evidence of the team and coach playing together."

  19. Can ex-Reading boss Paunovic lead Serbia to unlikely play-off spot?published at 12:28 GMT

England v Serbia (Thu, 19:45 GMT)

The Serbian national team are in a state of flux after a nightmare qualifying campaign.

Dragan Stojkovic resigned as head coach last month after Serbia followed up September's 5-0 humiliation at home to England by losing 1-0 to second-placed Albania.

Those back-to-back defeats left Serbia unable to earn direct qualification for next summer's World Cup.

But after appointing former Reading boss Veljko Paunovic as Stojkovic's successor, they maintained their outside chances of securing a play-off spot by beating Andorra in October.

Serbia are a point behind play-off rivals Albania, but, if they can avoid defeat at Wembley on Thursday, will take their qualifying campaign to the final day, when they host fourth-placed Latvia and Albania entertain England.

Paunovic was at Reading between 2020 and 2022 and last season led Real Oviedo to promotion to La Liga before being sacked after they struggled at the start of this campaign.

But the former Atletico Madrid player has excelled in international management before, leading Serbia to victory at the Under-20s World Cup in 2015.

  20. 'It is basically a final for Serbia so we will see the best side of them'published at 12:26 GMT

England v Serbia (Thu, 19:45 GMT)

    England

England manager Thomas Tuchel was asked if it was up to the players to get the fans going on Thursday: "It is always up to us and I think we did in the last match and we will try to do it again. I think we will face a very patriotic Serbian team with a very patriotic new coach. A coach that is used to tournament football with Serbia U20s and used to club football in a high quality Spanish league.

"I think from the way he talks, when I see the line-up and the clubs the players play - we should not interpret the 5-0 as an easy match what we did there. We should remind the players of the hard work and the effort that we put in to make a result like this possible and we have to do it again.

"On top of this, for them it is basically a final so I think we will see the best side of them which is a strong side. This is what we prepare for and the stadium will hopefully follow.

"If they do what we expect them to do defensively, it could be difficult to accelerate the game so the best moment maybe to accelerate the game and bring intensity off the ball - meaning to implement our high-pressing and go after them from minute one to ensure the spark reaches our fans and hopefully it's a good atmosphere."
