Your thoughts before England v Serbia

  1. 'It is a dream come true' - Scott on first England call-uppublished at 11:40 GMT

One new player who will be hoping for a chance to show what he can do is Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.

He says he is "over the moon" to receive his first senior England call-up for the World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania - following in the footsteps of his step-sister, England defender Maya Le Tissier.

Scott, 22, was part of the England Under-21 side that defended their Euro U21s title in June and, just five months later, finds himself in line to earn his first senior cap.

I'm not sure playing the "youth team" is quite how this works Guy.

What do we think folks, is this the right time for experimentation, as Guy recommends?

Thumbs up if you want Thomas Tuchel to try out new players or thumbs down if you don't want England to risk stalling their gathering momentum...

As these matches don't matter since we have already qualified, it is time to try out new players. A completely new 11 should be used, including some of the youth team.

  4. Recap: Tuchel's last news conferencepublished at 11:34 GMT

    England

Thomas Tuchel spoke to the media just days ago on the back of his latest squad announcement.

There were plenty of talking points with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden returning to the team, while Bournemouth's Alex Scott also received his first senior call-up.

Here were the main takeaways from it:

    • Jude Bellingham is "back as a number 10" and Tuchel "does not see Foden as a winger anymore"
    • Adam Wharton comes into the squad as a number 6, so a back-up for Elliot Anderson, while Alex Scott is a number 8
    • Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has been left out because of fitness concerns
    • Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane does not need to sit out games in November because he gets a winter break in the Bundesliga
    • Tuchel also said that the door remains open for players like Myles Lewis-Skelly, who was a surprise omission from the squad
    • And the England boss said he was having lots of fun, hinting that he would be open to remaining in the position past the World Cup, but added that there would be plenty of time for contract talks

There are four international breaks this season, with November's being the penultimate camp.

The fourth and final break is in March, where we will most likely see what Thomas Tuchel is really thinking about his World Cup squad selection.

However, after the domestic season finishes and before the tournament kicks off in mid-June, there will be an additional training camp where countries can play an extra two friendlies.

Thomas Tuchel has managed eight games since becoming the England boss at the start of 2025.

The German coach has won all but one, conceded zero goals in the six World Cup qualifiers and faced the only loss of his tenure against Senegal in a friendly back in June.

The Three Lions were booed off at the City Ground after that defeat to the talented African side in what felt like a show of distrust and unhappiness with the new England manager.

Tuchel responded by telling fans "not to panic" and a few months later, they saw a much improved and more inspired side, starting with a statement 5-0 win in Serbia, which was followed up by strong performances in the last two games against Wales and Latvia.

Two comfortable victories - first against a home nation rival and the second that qualified England for the 2026 World Cup.

It has left fans with a lot more hope than they had five months ago.

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah and Manchester City keeper James Trafford received call-ups to the England squad on Tuesday following the withdrawals of Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said both winger Gordon (hip) and goalkeeper Pope (concussion) would withdraw from the squad and the Football Association confirmed this on Tuesday.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who suffered a foot injury in his side's Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar last week, has joined up with manager Thomas Tuchel's squad and "will continue to be assessed in the coming days".
