I'm pleased with Leeds' business so far, it's good to see us going for plenty of height and physicality down the middle in defence and midfield. Got a good core around them with Rodon, Amp, Struik and Tanaka. Should be interesting!

Stach by name, stack by nature - at 6ft 4ins tall, Leeds United's latest signing is certainly a big presence on a football field.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, Anton Stach has been deployed as a centre-back, as well as in more advanced midfield roles in his career.

The 26-year-old has 122 Bundesliga appearances to his name since his debut in the competition with Mainz back in 2021-22, scoring five goals and providing 16 assists in that time.

Stach has two caps for Germany, though he hasn't appeared for his national side since a Nations League victory against Italy in June 2022.

Last season, the midfielder played six matches in Hoffenheim's 2024-25 Europa League campaign and found the net in a 3-2 defeat by Tottenham.

As a Liverpool fan, if Salah hadn’t extended his contract I was hoping we would go for Mbeumo. Different style of player but nevertheless a good one. Man Utd are building character as well as a team.

  6. 'I want to feel the atmosphere'published at 08:40 British Summer Time

    Leeds United

Leeds United's new signing Anton Stach, speaking to the club website: “First of all, I am feeling really good. I am excited to join such a good team, such a good Premier League team, and I am looking forward to the next season.

“My style of play, I would say I am an aggressive player. I am good in duels. I am good at anticipating passes from the opponents and it would be good for the Premier League. Now we will see, I will try my best!

“The biggest target is to stay in the league and personally just develop, adapt to the league, to the speed of course and then get many good experiences hopefully.

“I am really excited to play at home with the fans because I think the fans are really good here and as well away.

“I want to feel the atmosphere because I heard and I saw so many videos of the fans, the promotion [parade] last year over 150,000 people in the city.

“I think that is awesome. That is crazy when the team has a connection to the city. And I think then when you have fans like this, the fans get you some points as well in the league.”

Another piece of transfer news to round up from Monday comes from Brighton, where defender Pervis Estupinan is close to completing a move to Italian giants AC Milan in a deal up to 20m euros (£17m) with add-ons.

The Serie A side have been pushing to sign the Ecuador full-back for most of the summer and have already had one bid turned down.

However, an agreement is close to being concluded that would allow Estupinan, 27, to move to the former European champions.

Estupinan has made more than 100 appearances across three seasons at Brighton but he suffered a significant ankle injury in 2024 that caused him to miss Copa America.

His current contract at Brighton expires in 2027.

We've seen some lovely tributes over the years from departing players but Bryan Mbeumo's to Brentford is certainly up there - if not solely for uniqueness.

The 25-year-old posted a two-minute video to his social media platforms of him auditioning for a future Interstellar remake.

It shows him sat in a "space shuttle" watching highlights of his best moments in a Brentford shirt, while the theme music from Interstellar plays over the top of it.

The video concludes with him taking off his safety belt before saying: "It's time to take off. Thank you Brentford for everything. Forever. I will always love you and miss you all."

    • We will return to Mbeumo's quotes and delve deeper into this story after our news round-up.

There was competition for Bryan Mbeumo, but the Cameroon forward's quotes on Monday made it clear that there was only one club he wanted to sign for.

"As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up," said the 25-year-old.

"My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.

"Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans, we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies."
