It was interesting to read Keith Andrews talking this week about the Brazilian national team being in touch about Igor Thiago.

His nine Premier League goals for Brentford are clearly cutting through back home

Ahead of a World Cup year, Igor Thiago could be timing his form perfectly.

Bournemouth have won just five points from 18 available on the road in the Premier League so far this season – with their only victory at Tottenham – and head coach Andoni Iraola believes his team need to be "especially good" if they are going to triumph at Sunderland.

"We cannot see Sunderland like a promoted team," said the Spaniard. "I think they have shown they are a really good team and they have a lot of experience with players coming from big clubs. They know what they're doing and what it takes to win in the Premier League."

Brentford head into this weekend in the relative comfort of mid-table - five points clear of the relegation zone and five points below the top four.

Two defeats from their past three league outings doesn't look great on paper, but both losses came away from home and they only failed to snatch a point at Brighton last Saturday because top scorer Igor Thiago's 94th-minute penalty was saved with the Bees trailing 2-1.

The Brazilian scored his ninth top-flight goal of the season from the spot earlier in that match and only Erling Haaland, with 14 goals, has more in the division.

Thiago is vying to reach the 10-goal mark after just 13 matches and would become the quickest Brentford player to reach double figures in the division, beating Ivan Toney's previous record of 15 games set in 2022-23.

This could so easily be a repeat of the score when Man City last played Leeds at home, when it ended 7-0. City will be angry today, after their last two games, and we know Leeds run out of puff after 30 minutes.

    Burnley fan's voice

    Natalie Bromley, Fan writer

Something has happened to Burnley over the past couple of weeks. We have turned into a very passive side with no real intent to win a game.

When we don't have the ball, we lack the intensity and drive to get in the opposition's faces and win the ball back. We just allow the play to continue and try to defend the attack that the other side are building.

Scott Parker is a naturally cautious manager. We know that, but he has to step out of his comfort zone and fire his players up - otherwise we're just waving the white flag and whimpering back down to the Championship. We have the talent, we just don't have the drive at the moment.

I ask Parker this question: what is your side's identity? What does the class of 2026 want to be known for? If you don't know the answer to that question, you have got work to do.

  8. 'Leeds seeing how ruthless this league can be'published at 14:32 GMT

Man City v Leeds (15:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

At the start of the season, did we think that Leeds would roll into the Premier League and cruise? No.

I suppose there are Leeds fans that are looking at Sunderland's success this season and are thinking: 'Why couldn't that have been us?'

That's the issue because Leeds haven't had a disastrous start to the Premier League. They have picked up 11 points from 12 games and they have been very competitive, but we are seeing how ruthless this league can be.

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

While welcoming Leeds United in his programme notes, the Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he hopes the visitors "can enjoy Manchester a little bit before returning home after the game."

I am presuming he means at the Christmas markets in the city centre, or something along those lines, because nothing less than three points will do for City this afternoon as they attempt to make up ground on Premier League leaders Arsenal, who are seven points better off.

Burnley face Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday

Burnley defender Kyle Walker on his team's survival chances: "They say you need 10 wins. We are on three. If we can turn some of those losses into draws, we are getting closer.

"I was very fortunate to win six Premier Leagues. Would Burnley staying up match the Champions League? Of course not. Would it match the third Premier League or something like that? Possibly on par. On par for different reasons. When people are doubting you so much in a town like Burnley, where they expect you to go down, if we survive this, it'll be a great achievement."

Leeds haven't had the creative edge that they need and they are relying too much on set pieces. Fair to say Keith Andrews is doing a fine job as Brentford boss.

The Bees have beaten Aston Villa, Manchester United, West Ham, Liverpool and Newcastle in the league since the former Republic of Ireland midfielder took charge.

They also have a League Cup quarter-final at Manchester City to look forward to.

Brentford will climb above Tottenham, the club Thomas Frank left the Bees for in the summer, if they beat Burnley today.

Brentford's results have been decent at home, with four wins out of six, and they should win this too, but it might be closer than people expect.

Burnley have got some fight, spirit and organisation. Their biggest problem, though, is that they struggle to score.

Man City v Leeds (15:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City will be aiming to put things right at Etihad Stadium after being stunned at home by Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The result saw Pep Guardiola's side record back-to-back defeats for the second time this season, but midfielder Tijjani Reijnders - who starts today - now feels it is a time for calm heads.

"We should not panic," said the Dutchman. "Of course losing two times in a row is not a good thing, but we know there are still plenty of chances this season and we have to go game-to-game.

"Mentally we have to be ready. We know what we can do and what we showed before. It's on us to do that again.

"We need to make sure we don't lose the confidence because we have a lot of quality in the team."

    There's a 12:00 GMT kick-off on Sunday.

Manchester United fans will have to set their alarm clocks early to get to Crystal Palace in time for kick-off.

The fixture was originally selected for live television coverage at 12:30 today. However, Palace were playing in the Conference League away at Strasbourg on Thursday.

With the Premier League attempting to ensure teams have at least 60 hours gap between matches, the game will now start at the unusual time of 12:00., external

Three games that were down to start at 14:00 - Aston Villa-Wolves, Nottingham Forest-Brighton and West Ham-Liverpool - have been pushed back to 14:05 to avoid any potential overlap.
