    What a start from Manchester City! A sharp finish from Phil Foden.

    You can imagine Leeds United manager Daniel Farke emphasising the need for his side to stay in this game before kick-off, but then quick-footed Manchester City strike with their first attack of the afternoon.

    A perfect start for them and a great response from that defeat at Bayer Leverkusen.

    It's a blow to concede early but Sunderland have started this game well.

    When I was walking over to the Etihad Stadium earlier Manchester City's Under-18s were part way through a 6-0 win over Nottingham Forest in their Premier League North fixture.

    The way the men's first team have started suggests they have plenty of goals on their mind as well.

    That Phil Foden goal went in before scores of supporters in front of me had even reached their seats.

    This may well be Manchester City's worst start to a campaign for five years but Pep Guardiola has said that overall he is, "pleased with the season so far" and his "players are working hard to improve every day."

    Whatever you do you're scrutinised. Pep gave people minutes [against Bayer Leverkusen], he believes in his squad but it was a disappointing performance and you can't ignore it.

    But the best thing about the best teams is that they learn from mistakes really quickly and that's what they've got to do today - another big test and they can't afford to keep making these mistakes.

    Burnley sat above Brentford on goal difference after five games of this season, but the gap between the teams is now six places and six points.

    Scott Parker's side have slipped back into the relegation places after a hat-trick of defeats, and they could suffer four losses in a row for the first time since between February and March 2024 under Vincent Kompany.

    The Clarets have mustered a total of 98 shots in 12 games this term and are the only side to attempt fewer than 100 efforts at goal.

    Their current ratio of 8.2 shots per game is the lowest on record in a Premier League campaign, since Opta started recording that data in 1997-98, and history tells us that a season normally ends with relegation for teams who struggle to generate shooting opportunities.
