  1. 'No saving that'published at 21:20 BST 16 September

    Brentford 1-1 Aston Villa

    Garry Thompson
Former Aston Villa forward on BBC Radio 5 Live Extra

Hickey is a talented player and that is a sweet volley. There is no saving that.

Brentford work on these throws and set-pieces and that is a sweet hit.

I was just going to say the Owls have skipper Barry Bannan on the bench but given how stretched their squad is and the fact they are winless in the league I wonder if boss Henrik Pedersen will risk putting him on?

    Well, he is.

Bannan and Ike Ugbo are both on as the home side chase a leveller.

Into the final 20 minutes of this one now.

    Aaron Hickey (Brentford)

Brentford equalise after a long throw from the right causes chaos. Pau Torres, under pressure at the near post, can only partially clear with a header but what a strike from Aaron Hickey as he hits a beautifully sweet volley past Marco Bizot and into the net.

Good defending from Ezri Konsa, with a full-length block to stop Dango Ouattara's powerful effort from reaching the Villa goal.

Sancho will be a bit disappointed there. Sancho is coming on to it after great play from Guessand and it just hits the post. It's a great cross from Guessand and it was just inviting the forwards to have a shot at goal.

  6. HITS THE WOODWORK - Aston Villapublished at 21:12 BST 16 September

    Brentford 0-1 Aston Villa

So close to a goal for Jadon Sancho on his Villa debut following his season-long loan from Manchester United.

Evann Guessand does well down the right and his low cross cannot be cleared. It falls perfectly for Sancho, who side-foots a left-footed effort at goal but it bounces off the left post.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:11 BST 16 September

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Millwall

Crystal Palace have brought on Nigeria forward Christantus Uche, who joined the Eagles on transfer deadline day on loan from La Liga side Getafe.

He replaces Romain Esse, taken off at half-time against his former side.

    Sheff Wed 0-1 Grimsby

The chances are piling up for the away side now.

Sub Jamie Walker hammers a shot wide of the near post.

The Mariners have had nine shots so far in this game. Their Championship hosts have had one.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:07 BST 16 September

    Brentford 0-1 Aston Villa

A change for Brentford at the break. Vitaly Janelt, who played a role in Villa's goal when he lost possession, has been taken off with Keith Andrews bringing on Yehor Yarmoliuk. And the second half is back under way.

    Sheff Wed 0-1 Grimsby

A second Grimsby goal would probably end this here and they're pushing for it.

Charles Vernam swings in another dangerous set piece and Jaze Kabia, who got their first a few minutes ago, heads on target but too close to Owls keeper Ethan Horvath.

First change for the away side.

Experienced winger Jamie Walker is on for Kieran Green.

  12. 'Villa can relax a bit now'published at 20:59 BST 16 September

    HT: Brentford 0-1 Aston Villa

    Garry Thompson
Former Aston Villa forward on BBC Radio 5 Live Extra

We can all relax a bit. The game is not done and dusted.

Villa started well and then fell away a little bit, but John McGinn made the tackle when it mattered. They can relax a little bit now.

Harvey Elliott does look a class above.

    Jaze Kabia (49 mins)

The League Two side have the breakthrough!

It comes from a set piece and it's Jaze Kabia, who was playing in the sixth tier for Truro City last season, who has got the final touch.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:53 BST 16 September

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Millwall

Goalless at Selhurst Park. Palace have had nine chances, with three of them saved.

But arguably the best opportunities have dropped for Millwall. Camiel Neghli shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat and Zak Sturge had a well-hit effort parried by Eagles debutant Walter Benitez just before half-time.

If there's no goals in the second half then it will go straight to penalties.

  15. Second halfpublished at 20:52 BST 16 September

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Grimsby

We're back under way at Hillsborough.

No changes at the break but a reminder the home side had to make two in the first half because of injuries.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:50 BST 16 September

    Brentford 0-1 Aston Villa

Harvey Elliott's goal just before half-time has Aston Villa ahead.

Brentford have had chances, with Sepp van den Berg coming closest, only to see his header superbly tipped over by Marco Bizot.

    Brentford 0-1 Aston Villa

    Garry Thompson
Former Aston Villa forward on BBC Radio 5 Live Extra

Judging this first half, you'd say Brentford deserve to be 1-0 up, but McGinn gets a great block in and Harvey Elliott gets his strike in.

Finally, all the jokes can stop now. Villa have got a goal!

  18. goal

GOAL - Brentford 0-1 Aston Villapublished at 43 mins

    Harvey Elliott

    Villa have a goal!

Brentford concede - and it's all their fault. They try to play it out from the back, captain Vitaly Janelt loses the ball 30 yards from his own goal and the ball is played to Harvey Elliott.

The attacker, on loan from Liverpool, strikes at goal, but Hakon Valdimarsson really should save it, but instead lets the ball creep through his legs.

Villa, who had not scored in their past five competitive games, are ahead in south west London.

  19. 'Cash is clipped'published at 20:43 BST 16 September

    Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa

    Garry Thompson
Former Aston Villa forward on BBC Radio 5 Live Extra

I think Cash was going down the first time but then it looked like there might have been a clip.

I think it is the fact that he was going down anyway. The lad clips him but he also clips his own heel.

  20. Postpublished at 20:43 BST 16 September

    Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa

Villa's Matty Cash hits the turf in the Brentford penalty area, but there was no home defender involved and he had instead tripped himself up when off balance. Nothing given and rightly so.
