Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney says his players need to be more efficient up front to beat Cavan in Sunday's Ulster Senior Football Championship match.

Failure to convert scoring chances was one of the reasons for their relegation from Division Three last month.

"That's the dilemma we have this year, we create a lot of scoring chances, we just don't put them away," he said ahead of Sunday's trip to Breffni Park.

"That's going to be the big test for us, can we put those chances away?"

Cavan on the attack

Armagh were hammered 3-18 to 0-10 by Cavan in a league match in March, which ultimately led to their relegation on scoring difference.

In contrast, Cavan were one of the highest scorers in the competition on route to promotion to Division One.

They averaged 1-18 in the five games they won in Division Two before losing to Tyrone in the League Final in Croke Park, with David Givney, Michael Argue and Seanie Johnston scoring a combined total of 6-17.

"They've added a new dimension to their play in terms of how they attack while still holding their defence together," stated McGeeney.

"[Dara] McVeety and [Martin] Reilly on the counter attack, with Givney and Argue at full-forward, they have a lot of key men.

"They're a very strong team, very young, dynamic, very fit. They have a lot going for them.

"We gave a hell of a lot of ball away in the League, most of it under no pressure. Same here against Donegal in the Ulster Championship last year.

"That's something we are trying to change."
