Derry humbled by Kerry in All-Ireland Minor final

Kerry became the first county to win the All-Ireland Minor Football title four years in a row by hammering Derry 6-17 to 1-08 in Sunday's final.

David Clifford, widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Gaelic football, scored four goals and was named man of the match.

Derry, who pulled off a superb win over Dublin in the semi-final, scored their goal through a Paddy Quigg penalty.

Fiachra Clifford netted the other two goals in Kerry's dominant display.

Sunday's match at Croke Park was the last at Minor level, which is for players under 18, as the GAA is replacing it with a competition for Under-17s.

It was also Damian McErlain's final game as Derry's underage boss, as he has been appointed manager of the county's Senior panel for the next three years.

Despite an impressive three-point win over Dublin in the semi-finals, Derry were huge underdogs against a strong Kerry side.

The writing was on the wall just seconds after the throw-in as David Clifford got in to score the first goal.

Kerry's star man found the net again and Fiachra Clifford also got a goal as Kerry powered their way to a commanding 12-point advantage by the interval (3-08 to 0-05).

It was the same after the interval as David Clifford snapped up two more three-pointers and Fiachra Clifford notched his second.

Derry brought on Callum Brown, of the Limavady Wolfhounds club, at the interval and he made an impression in attack.

When two Kerry defenders brought him down as he tried to get through on goal, a penalty was awarded and Quigg converted for Derry's only goal.
