Football League: Tyrone beaten by 14-man Dubs as Cavan defeat Louth

Tyrone were undone by a clinical Dublin side who won Saturday's Division One game 2-13 to 1-11 despite playing most the of second half with 14 men.

Cathal McShane's goal helped Tyrone to a 1-7 to 1-5 half-time lead, with Ciaran Kilkenny netting for Dublin.

Niall Scully was dismissed on 47 minutes but Dublin took command and Eoghan O'Hara added a second goal.

Cavan beat Louth 3-17 to 0-13 in Division Two with goals from Bryan Magee, Ciaran Brady and Niall Clerkin.

The Ulster hosts, who drew their opening league match last weekend, surged into a 0-8 to 0-2 lead at Breffni Park.

Louth hit back with four unanswered points and they trailed 0-10 to 0-8 at the interval.

Cavan found the Louth net three times in a dominant second-half display to secure a comfortable win over the Leinster men.

Tyrone were aiming to bounce back from defeat by Galway in their Division One opener and they made a terrific start against the All-Ireland champions.

McShane slotted over the first point of the Healy Park encounter after just 12 seconds before shooting into the bottom corner for a fifth-minute goal.

Tyrone had 1-1 on the scoreboard before Kevin McManamon split the Red Hands posts and Dublin never gained parity in the first half.

Impressive scores from Lee Brennan and Conor McAliskey kept Tyrone in front although Kilkenny reduced the gap to a single point with his composed finish.

Tyrone's two-point advantage at the interval was quickly erased on the restart as Dublin seized control by hitting five points without reply.

Dean Rock, James McCarthy and Brian Fenton were on target before Scully was sent-off for two yellows.

Tyrone were guilty of poor finishing and they clocked up 13 wides as they failed to capitalise on the extra man.

McManamon and Kilkenny added further Dublin points before Stephen Cluxton produced an excellent save to deny Brennan a goal which would have brought Mickey Harte's side level.

It was a pivotal moment, for Dublin extended their lead and O'Gara netted with five minutes left to end hopes of a Red Hands comeback.

"We created a lot of chances but squandered a lot of them - we deserved something out of the game but we were our own worst enemies," said Tyrone boss Harte.

"That's two games and no points so every game is crucial now. We have to roll up our sleeves and pick up some points."
