Get Inspired: 20 young Premier League players to watch

From using jumpers for goalposts to gracing sold-out stadia, the rise to superstar is most young footballers' fantasy.

For some, through hard work, dedication and no small amount of talent, this becomes a reality as they turn playing the game they love, which often started with a simple kick-about with friends, into a full-time occupation.

Fanzine writers from all 20 Premier League clubs have given Get Inspired their top tip for who is likely to be their club's star of the future. Some have already made first-team appearances, while others may still be waiting for their debut, but all are names to look out for.

Player you would compare to: Iniesta or Xavi

Why will this player be a future star? Caught the eye on our pre-season tour of Asia with his ability to spot a defence-splitting pass. Despite his slim frame he shields the ball well and has good acceleration to get away from players in tight situations. Might see him on the bench from time to time this season.

Mike Francis - The Gooner

Player you would compare to: Frank Lampard

Why will this player be a future star? In 2009 he was out for a year after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and last year it was his right, but Gary Gardner has it all. He reads a game, has an engine and can pick a pass. He's a natural footballer.

Player you would compare to: Kieran Gibbs

Why will this player be a future star? John made his league debut as we made our own Premier League debut, a huge ask of an 18-year-old with virtually no experience but clearly showing his manager's faith. An attack-minded left-back converted from a winger, John is expected to have a big future at the club.

Why will this player be a future star? The 17-year old has everything required to make the grade as a Premier League footballer. He has represented England at U17 level and made a first-team appearances in Chelsea's post-season US tour. Tall, strong and an excellent passer of the ball, arriving late to score is his speciality.

Player you would compare to: Juan Mata

Why will this player be a future star? Reise floats around the midfield and forward and is impossible to tackle. He broke into the U21 team last year and dominated against lads much older and was taken on the pre-season camp to Portugal. He's a quiet lad but could make lots of noise on the pitch this season.

Why will this player be a future star? Overlooked by a cautious Moyes, this is a big season for Ross. Well regarded and he threatened to break through at 16 but injuries hampered his progress. Now 19, he is ready. Very direct, powerful and he can't half belt it - as Norwich were the first to find out.

Why will this player be a future star? Fulham have high hopes for England youth international Cauley Woodrow. The striker's physique makes him comfortable playing with his back to goal coupled with his ability to score vitals goals, makes him the complete centre forward. Woodrow was a key part of the Under-18 side that have won two titles in succession.

Why will this player be a future star? Already a regular England representative at U17 level, Clark is quick, versatile and a strong tackler. He was first selected for England U16s when he was just 14 and was a mainstay in the Hull U18 side that made it to the FA Youth Cup quarter final last season.

Why will this player be a future star? Quick, strong and uses the ball well. At 17, he is mature in terms of physical stature and is a cut above in terms of the maturity of his play. Ibe can beat a man and has an eye for goal but he's not flash for the sake of it.

Manchester City

Position: Forward Nationality: Spanish

Player you would compare to: Raul

Why will this player be a future star? Procuring Jose from Real Madrid was considered quite a coup and it's easy to see why Madrid wanted to keep hold of him. Blessed with great balance and technique, the Spaniard was City's top scorer at under-21 level last season, despite playing against players up to five years his senior.

Why will this player be a future star: Slight of build but crucially slight footed with the ball, he's shown precocious talent on the pre-season tour with flair, guile and graft and the small loyal band of Reds who watched him each week for the Academy are bring proved right with their own 'one to watch' predictions.

Why will this player be a future star? Newcastle fans are hoping that a Geordie number nine may be emerging from the ranks. The club's youngest ever European debutant, 18-year-old Adam Campbell, may be only 5ft 5in but he certainly has the energy and enthusiasm. A loan spell at Carlisle could tell us a lot more with regular football at last.

Why will this player be a future star? Impossible to separate these two outstanding twin brothers as Norwich U18s won the FA Youth Cup. Both combine natural pace with a love for old-fashioned dribbling, whilst an almost telepathic understanding has yielded countless goals at youth level. If they fulfil their potential, they will be the best English brothers since the Nevilles.

Why will this player be a future star? Luke may have only just turned 18 but he's been a regular at St Mary's for the last nine months. He is already considerably better than Gareth Bale was when playing the same role for Saints at the same age. Improving all the time, he's ours and England's next biggest thing.

Why will this player be a future star? The 18-year-old forward has impressed in U21 competitions and on loan at Scunthorpe last season. If Alabi can learn to combine his strength and technically ability along with his blistering pace and brilliant aerial ability into a cohesive package then he could be the solution to Stoke's lack of goals.

Confident, bullish and athletic; he has the makings of a top-class goalkeeper.

Why will this player be a future star? Meade signed on a free this summer having been released by Arsenal but was highly thought of at the Emirates. He has all the typical attributes of a Wenger player - comfortable on the ball, quick and reads the game well. Expect him to feature in cup games this term.

Why will this player be a future star: Tom has been around the first-team squad for a while. With two loan moves, the 21-year old is ready to break through this season. Technically gifted with a style akin to former Spurs hero, Luka Modric, Carroll offers an exciting alternative to the more physical style of Sandro, Paulinho and Dembele.

Why will this player be a future star? Skilful, quick and possessing good ball control, Saido looks set to be part of the Baggies' first team squad this season after impressing in pre-season. Injury curtailed his progress last year but after doing well during loan spells at Northampton, Brentford and Peterborough, this could be the Burundi-born striker's year.

Why will this player be a future star? Not strictly speaking a youth product, signed from Manchester United following serious disciplinary problems. He spent last year on loan at Birmingham. The word is that the penny has finally dropped that this is make or break for him and both form and attitude have impressed the staff this pre-season.
