Simone Biles led the United States to a record seventh consecutive title in the World Gymnastics women's team event as Great Britain missed out on the medals.

Biles, 26, produced a stunning floor routine to ensure the US finished top of the podium above Brazil and France.

She has returned to international competition in Antwerp for the first time since taking a two-year break from the sport to work on her mental health.

The US, who lost Joscelyn Roberson to injury in the warm-up, scored 167.729.

Silver medallists Brazil, led by 2022 world all-around champion Rebeca Andrade, earned a historic first medal in the event with a team total of 165.530.

France took bronze with 164.064, securing the nation's first team medal at the World Championships since 1960.

Great Britain finished sixth with a total of 161.864 points.

The team of Jessica Gadirova, Ondine Achampong, Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton and 16-year-old debutant Ruby Evans qualified for the final in second place.

But the 2022 silver medallists were unable to reach the same level on Wednesday and fell away from contention in a contest where the Americans were pushed closer than expected.

"It obviously didn't go the way we wanted it to, but we just wanted to go out there, enjoy it and get the experience, which we did. I'm super proud of the girls," said Kinsella.

"It's given us a lot of confidence going into next year and Paris, so I'm super excited to see what happens next year."

Great Britain also finished outside the podium places in Tuesday's men's team final as Japan took gold.
