Cracking two front teeth in training has not disrupted preparations for the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships for Britain's Alexander Yolshin-Cash.

In fact, the 20-year-old was back on the pommel horse within 24 hours.

Having missed both the English and British championships this year because of a shoulder injury, the Derby athlete who trains at the Notts Gymnastics Academy took the tooth-rattling training setback in his stride.

"I was on the pommel horse doing a dismount that I've done thousands of times and I slipped, missed my hands and chipped my two front teeth," he explained to BBC East Midlands Today

"I was quite an interesting experience, but I was able to get back in the gym the next day - it didn't stop my preparations. I got it sorted and was straight back in."

Yolshin-Cash on excitement of world championship appearance

While Yolshin-Cash has had an injury-interrupted year, he distinguished himself as one of Britain's finest performers with a strong showing in September's World Challenge Cup in Paris.

He was the top ranked Brit in the pommel horse after finishing fifth and ended up 25th on the parallel bars.

He will compete on both apparatuses at the World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, starting on Sunday.

Yolshin-Cash says he is "ecstatic and buzzing" to call the likes of Courtney Tulloch and Joe Fraser team-mates in what will be his first senior World Championship appearance.

"This has been my dream from a young age," he said.

"To be able to compete with some names like Courtney Tullock and Joe Fraser, these have been idols of mine for several years since I was a 10-year-old, is an honour."
