Ireland men lose Spanish series after closing defeat

Ireland's men's hopes of a series win over Spain were dashed as they were beaten 5-2 in the third and final clash between the teams in Santander.
The Irish had regrouped from Tuesday's 2-1 defeat by Spain to earn a 3-2 victory over the hosts in Thursday's clash in Santander.
Ronan Gormley put Ireland ahead but the hosts recovered to take a 3-1 lead by the interval.
Spain extended their lead to 5-1 before Conor Harte pulled a goal back.
On Thursday, the Irish fought back from a goal down on two occasions to win with Conor Harte, Drew Carlisle and David Carson on target.
David Harte made a great save in the closing seconds to ensure the win.
Coach Paul Revington guided the Irish in Spain and he will step down in July after the end of the Celtic Cup and further Tests against South Africa and Belgium.
Several experienced players are missing part or all of the itinerary.
