Ireland beaten by Argentina in Champions Challenge semi-final

Ireland were defeated 2-1 by hosts Argentina in the Champions Challenge 1 semi-final on Saturday.

The match in Quilmes was scoreless at half-time before Argentina took a 38th minute lead through Pedro Ibarra.

Guillermo Schickendantz made it 2-0 seven minutes later while John Jermyn set up a tense finish after netting with four minutes left.

Ireland will finish the tournament by taking on Malaysia in the third/fourth place play-off match on Sunday.

The Irish progressed to the semi-finals of the tournament after beating Poland 4-0 on Thursday.

Michael Watt, Conor Harte (2) and Shane O'Donoghue scored in the impressive victory.
